Cambodia is developing major infrastructure projects to become a regional transportation hub, including a new international airport and highway. The new Phnom Penh airport,  Techo Takhmao International Airport south of Phnom Penh will replace the current airport for international flights when completed in 2025. It will handle large aircraft and have an initial capacity of 13 million passengers per year. Phnom Penh International Airport will transition to domestic flights and other operations once the new airport opens. The new airport is one of the largest in the world at 2,600 hectares. It represents Cambodia’s aspirations for modernization and economic growth. Funding comes from the Cambodian government, Cambodian banks and corporations, and international investors. Construction is underway in phases for a 2025 opening. The airport aims to boost tourism, trade, investment, and connectivity for Cambodia. It symbolizes the country’s development and will provide opportunities through improved global links.
